        If you want to see exotica, there is no substitue for taking NV 375
east of Rachel, NV until you reach the Summit before the U.S. highway junction.
Although the black mailbox has been removed, the Groom Lake Road is still
pretty obvious, because it is the only broad, recently and well-graded dirt
road on the south side of the NV 375 east of Rachel. You _should_ be able to
proceed SSW about 10 miles on Groom Lake Road before you encounter warning
signs that you are about to entered a Restricted Military Reservation. Of
course you should stop at that point and not proceed. However, the unofficial
Wackenhut Posse (contract security for the DOE which runs Areas 51 & S-4) may,
and often does, harassing unauthorized stops and questionings way out on
perfectly legal BLM land. But it doesn't mean anything except they're trying to
discourage the tourist traffic. The best viewing is at night, so bring good
binoculars, and if you have a telephoto camera and ASA 1000 film, all the
better. After dark, give or take 9:30 p.m. or so, the action might! begin, if
it's going to happen that night. However, people have also had anomalous
sightings in the late hours or early a.m. hours.
        Other possibilities are: to drive to the gates of the Tonopah test
range, side road (south side of U.S. 6, about 25 miles east of Tonopah, NV),
and see how your taxes are being spent on Star Wars and other exotic DOE
weapons "research" and firings; or to check out Nellis Air Force Base, Area 11,
designated as a Federal Correction Center, and see how close you get to the
main entrance before a security car tags you, but, of course, be _sure_ to
observe all posted warnings about trespass; you wouldn't want to get an all-
expenses paid tour (long-term) inside the Correctional Center.
        Just some ideas. Area 51 has U.S,-made UFO's, Black Budget exotic
aircraft, and hybrid craft that fly like planes but "jump" and otherwise seem
free to ignore the laws or gravity and inertia. Maybe you'll see one.
