20 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE
GROOM LAKE FACILITY (AREA-51)
by Michael Curta
Colorado MUFON Section Director
June 26, 1994
Q: Where is Area 51?
A: Area-51 is located at Groom Lake, NV. about
140 miles north of Las Vegas, NV. Near the
town of Rachel, NV. about 13 miles West of
HWY 375 on Groom Lake Road.
Q: How did Area-51 get it's name?
A: Area-51 got it's name from a map. The Facility
at Groom Lake is located in Area-51 of the
Nevada Test Site.
Q: Is S-4 and Area-51 the same place?
A: No! S-4 is a facility located at Papoose Lake,
NV. S-4 is the facility that Bob Lazar claims
to have worked at, reverse engineering ET UFO's.
The Air Force does not deny it exist, but will
only say they do testing there but will not
say what is tested there. S-4 is located about
12 miles SSW. of Area-51.
Q: Who provides Security for Area-51
A: A subsidiary of EG&G (NOT Wackenhut) EG&G is
the same company that runs Rocky Flats Nuclear
Weapons Plant in Denver.
Q: Can I See the Facility at Groom Lake (Area-51)?
A: Yes, there are several viewing points on Public
Land 2 of the best are White Sides Mountain and
Freedom Ridge. Stop in Rachel for EXACT DIRECTIONS
to these locations.
Q: What will I see from White Side or Freedom Ridge?
A: 10 miles away you can see the Base, all of it's
buildings and a runway reportedly 27,000 ft. long.
That's over 5 miles...
Q: Can you take a camera up on the mountains?
A: This is up to you. The signs say no photos, map
making or drawings may be made of the base or
anything operating on or above it.
Q: Can I drive up either of the Mountains?
A: Yes, you can drive up Freedom Ridge with a 4X4,
but you must climb White Sides.
Q: What is Old Faithful?
A: Old Faithful was first reported to be a (ET)
UFO that arrived every Wednesday morning at
04:45 like clock work, hence the name Old
Faithful. It is now known that this is nothing
more then the first of the 373 flights from Las
Vegas, that brings the workers into Area-51
everyday.
Q: Are there UFO's At Area-51?
A: According to Bob Lazar no, the (ET) UFO's
are at S-4 and not Area-51
Q: Is there a view point where I can see S-4 from?
A: Yes, but ask for direction in Rachel.
Q: Is there a fence around the complex?
A: No. There are some wooden poles that mark
the border but NO fence.
Q: How will I know I am there?
A: Well if drive down Groom Lake Road and make it
to the Guard House you have gone to far!
Q: What would happen if I drove up to the
Guard House!
A: If you drive to the Guard House you are
already on the installation and will be
removed (not asked, but removed) from your
vehicle and arrested, and if you are lucky
that is all that will happen to you.
Q: What is the weather like?
A: This is the desert, it's hot, Dry, windy and
there are NO trees. As someone once said about
this place, "This is a place where a group of
a 1,000 people could easily get lost".
BE PREPARED! Help is a long Way off if it
comes at all.
Q: What is the first thing I should do when I
get there?
A: Go into the town of Rachel and find the UFO
Research Center or the Little A-Le-Inn (alien)
Bar and Grill (you can't miss them) and get
directions and gas. It might be 100+ miles
between gas stations, and when you find one
they might not have any gas. There is only
about 75 or 100 people in Rachel so don't
expect much, but the people are very friendly
for the most part.
Q: Will I see anyone who works at Area-51?
A: Maybe. But don't bother them, they will not
answer your questions and it is considered
rude to ask!
Q: Is there Police/Sheriff and EMS in Rachel?
A: NO! But everyone has a gun, and the town's
people enforce the law. THEIR LAW. The Sheriff
is about 50 miles away in Alamo. Some of the
fine people of Rachel are EMT's but there is
no Ambulance or Rescue, so you are on your own.
Q: What else might I see when I am there?
A: well even if you don't see any UFO's chances
are you will see lots of military aircraft
preforming all sorts of maneuvers. This is the
home of Air Force Thunderbirds, The Air Force's
Red Flag and a host of other military groups.
Q: Are there any other instillations in the area
to see?
A: Yes, Nellis AFB and The Nevada Test Site cover
over 3 million acres. There are several other
installations on the Test Site, possibly more we
don't know about. The base at Tonopah, NV. on the
NW side of the Test Site is said to have had a
dramatic increase in security and activity over
the 9 to 12 months.
As a last word of advice, The Air Force, EG&G and who
ever else might be in control at Area-51 is fed up
with all of the tourist and media coming to see the
base, they are no longer messing around, if you mess
up you will be in for some serious trouble. DON'T
PUSH IT! DON'T make the rest of us look bad by doing
something stupid. This might be public land but people
live and ranch here, respect their rights!
