You [true believers in Islamic Monotheism and real followers of Prophet Muhammad (saaw) and his Sunnah] are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind: you enjoin Al-Ma’ruf (Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allah. [Surah al Imran 3:110]In this Ayah Allah (swt) is stating a fact that we are the best nation ever sent to mankind.  We are the best nation not because of our color or our race and not only because we are Muslims, but because we are Muslims who order the good and forbid the Haram.  As long as we continue to do this, we will fit in the description of the Ayah. However, if we do not follow the path of Allah (swt), Allah (swt) will replace us with other people who will carry the message correctly and who will be better than us.This leads to the question: do we currently fit in the description of this Ayah; meaning do we qualify as being the best nation ever sent to mankind.  Are we ordering the good and forbidding the Haram?  The answer is self evident and very clear.  Just look at the world around us.  The Muslim Ummah’s position in the world is currently very low.  Muslims are being oppressed and killed in many places throughout the world.   To understand what led us to the position that we are currently in, we need to look at our history.  What brought this nation down after a great history where the Muslims ruled the world for more than 1000 years.   There are many reasons and if we look into our history, we will see that this did not happen overnight .  The problem really started in our golden era of the Abasaid Khilafah.  The reasons of the downfall can be summarized as follows and Insha-Allah, if we reflect and learn from these, we can once again lead mankind.  The reasons are summarized as follows:  »  First reason is the adoption of a Madhab by the Abasaid Khalif.  This stopped the Muslims’  creativity and as a result, the Muslims at that time could not find solutions to the new issues/problems they faced.   »   Second reason is that the door of Ijtihad (ability to derive new laws based on the Qur’an and the Sunnah for new problems) was closed.  As a result, there was a significant declined in the number of Mujtahideens in the Muslim Ummah.  This made it difficult at the time of the Ottoman (Uthmani Khilafah) for the Muslims to deal with the Industrial Revolution in Europe.   »  Third reason is that the Arabic language was completely ignored by the State.  Other languages replaced the Arabic language and instead of non-Arabs learning the Arabic language as it happened before the time of Omaya, the Abasi Arabs had to learn Turkish and Farsi in order to survive in their own State.   »   Fourth reason is the invasion of many philosophies into the Muslim world.  This created many problems, such as the confusion of Al-Qada and Qader (divine fate and destiny) the Rizk (provision).  Later on, because of the influence of these and other philosophies, Islam itself became subject of questioning and testing.   »   Fifth reason is Nationalism.  Nationalism took over the Muslim world over the last one hundred years and created divisions among the Muslim Ummah, stopping it from being united as one Ummah.   »  Finally, the last reason is the Europe’s defeat of the Muslims outside of Vienna.  This encouraged Europe to go further and discouraged the Muslims from trying to invade Europe.  As a result, in 1917, the Muslim world which challenged Europe and ruled the world for over 1,000 years became easy target for the Kafirs.
