Actions in IslamJumma' KhutbahActions in IslamBismillah, ArRahman, ArRaheem.Allah says in the Qur'an:"It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in a plain error." [Al-Ahzab 33:36]"But no, by your Lord, they can have no faith, until they make you judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission." [An-Nisa 4:65]Based on these and other Ayat in the Qur'an, it is clear that all aspects of our lives must comply with Islam, including our emotions and desires. Bottom line is that all of our actions have to comply with Hukm Sharii (laws based on the Qur'an and the Sunnah). This is because as Muslims we have realized and believed that Allah (swt) is the Creator. This is not based on blind faith, like it is some other religions. Before we become Muslims, we have to be convinced that yes there is a creator who is created all that we see around us and then submit fully to that creator. Islamic Aqeedah is also not based on emotions. Because if some one does become Muslim based on emotions, then he/she would only obey Allah when he/she is "emotionally high". At other times he is not likely to obey Allah (swt). Before we carry an action in Islam, we have to have a Daleel. We do not blindly follow a mufti or an Imam, just because he has a Ph.D. A Daleel means an evidence based on the Qur'an and the Sunnah, and not based on human intellect or Maslaha (benefit). We can not afford to follow an Imam or a scholar blindly, because on the day of judgment, each individual is responsible for his or her actions. As Allah says in the Qur'an:"That day shall a man flee from his brother. And from his mother and his father, and from his wife and his children. Every man that day will enough to make him careless of others. "[At-Takwir 81:34-37]And Allah says:"On the Day when their faces will be turned over in the Fire, they will say: 'Oh, would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger [Muhammad (saaw)].' And they will say: 'Our Lord! Verily, we obeyed our chiefs and our great ones, and they misled us from the (right) way.' Our Lord! give them double torment and curse them with a mighty curse!'" [TMQ, Al-Ahzab 33:66-68] May Allah protect us from this. This Ayat is telling us that both who lead people astray and those who follow will be punished. Let us reflect upon this, before some scholar tells us it is OK to do this or to do that. We have to ask for a Daleel of anyone who brings us a verdict on any issue. A good example to bring to our attention is the idea of voting or participation in a Kufr (non-Islamic) system. Although the actual process of voting is an administrative issue and which is OK, but we have to think about what we are achieving by voting for a person x or y? Aren't we putting someone in power who will implement Kufr upon us? Allah is clearly ordering us not implement Kufr upon us, when He says:"All of the ruling belongs to Allah" [An-Nam 6:57]and"Those who do not rule by what Allah has revealed are Kafir" [Al-Ma'idah 5:44]There is an Sharii axiom in Islam which says that "Any action which leads to a Haram, is itself Haram."As mentioned earlier the where Allah says:"But no by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission." [An-Nisa 4:65]Here Allah is saying that not only our actions have to comply with Islam, but even our emotions and desires! So before we take an action, let us check to see if it complies with Islam or not, such as the issue of voting and participation, calling for democracy or nationalism, etc.Even if an action is allowed, we have to make sure that we are not doing it to imitate the non-Muslims. In a Hadith which I paraphrase, the Prophet (saaw) said, "he who imitates a non-Muslim, on the Day of Judgment, Allah will raise him up with them."Let us check all our of habits, customs and actions in life; to make sure that they comply with Islam. May Allah give us the courage and strengthen to admit to any wrong action and to change them or to stop performing them.We have to speak out against non-Islamic ideas, no matter who is telling them. As prophet (saaw) said, which I paraphrase: "the best of Shaeed was Hamza and the one who says the word of truth to a tyrant ruler and gets killed in the process".So we have to speak the truth. We can not hide behind a Sheikh or an Imam, saying well he told us so. As mentioned earlier, on the day of Judgment we as individuals are responsible for our actions. On that Day, even Shaytan will disown his follower, by saying that he only tempted people so they would follow him. It is his followers who actually made the choice of following him.May Allah protect us from Shaytan and give us the Hidayah to follow His Deen properly. May Allah give us the courage to change our actions if they are not based on Islam.
