are given below.

This vote is being conducted by a neutral third party. Please
direct all voting and procedural questions and reports of problems
to Jan Isley . This is NOT the voting address!

CHARTER
-------
This group will provide a forum for the free and unmoderated
discussion of all issues significant to Muslims and their
communities. These may include topics which are cultural,
& historical in nature, as well as announcements and news items.

It is hoped that such discussion will serve to inform both Muslims
and non-Muslims about the issues which are important in the Islamic
world today.Informed debate on these issues may also throw some light
on the current tensions which Muslim communities are experiencing,
both internally and in the context of the modern world.

RATIONALE
---------
Presently, there is no group on USENET for discussion of Cultural
Issues of Muslims. Announcements & debates pertaining to the above
topics ends up being cross-posted to 10 some soc.culture.* groups
due to lack of a proper forum.

Religious discussion on Islam are welcome in Soc.Religion.Islam.
Political discussions on some specific Muslim populated regions,
e.g. Middle East have a forum for discussion and debates.

Factually, Muslims are not restricted to any specific geographical
region. Muslims represent a multi-cultural diverse background.Despite
extensive diversity, there are strong commonalities of beliefs &
practices.

On USENET there is no forum to accommodate the discussions on Cultural
& historical backgrounds of Muslims. It is hoped that this forum,
Soc.Culture.Muslim fulfill the needs of Muslim communities and bring
new information & knowledge to USENET readership.
