In the last few decades the words "Gnosis" and "Gnostic" have been increasingly used to label a vast variety of ideas, experiences, and groups, most of which have essentially no relationship to the many authentic historical manifestations of Gnosticism. The following list is therefore provided primarily as a "sociological survey" of our own epoch's understanding of this ancient/modern word -- inadequate and even bizarre as that understanding sometimes appears to be.
