An earthquake shook the central Colombian
province of Boyaca early Saturday and
geologists said they believed the tremor could
be the start of a fresh series of quakes.
Saturday's tremor, measuring 5.0 on the
Richter scale, damaged buildings and cut off
electricity in a rural area about 75 miles
northeast of Bogota but was not felt in the
capital. Elvira Miriam Ruba, mayor of the town
of Gachantiva in Boyaca, said the quake had
damaged six houses, a church, a school and a
clinic but had not claimed any victims. ``We
