Gritz Looks at Idaho's governor's mansion
Sets Survivalist Classes in Idaho

Summaries of reports by:
Tony Hugel, Idaho Falls Post Register

Former fringe party presidential candidate James "Bo" Gritz
says he might run for governor of Idaho in 1984 if no one else he
can support is "willing to get into the pig pen."
"I would hope that we can find someone there in Idaho that
would stand for the Constitution and that I can support," he
said. "It would have to be someone other than the typical
Republocrat."
Gritz, who lives in Nevada, said he rented a residence in
Boise in case he decides to file as a candidate to succeed
Democrat Cecil Andrus who says he will not seek reelection.
Gritz, 54, says the New World Order threatens American
sovereignty with a one world government. He favors abolishing
the Federal Reserve and the federal income tax which he says
violate the constitution. Gritz has accused top government
officials of drug smuggling and of keeping American POWs in
Southeast Asia because they know about the smuggling.
Gritz said an associate is looking around Idaho, including
the St. Anthony area, for a place to live.
He said he's decided against running for governor in either
Utah or Nevada.
"Utah to me is tied up in LDS politics," he said, "Nevada is
tied up in Mafioso. We need a state where people are free
thinkers." Gritz also told the Post Register he is not a racist
and he disavowed reported linked to white supremacists calling it
a "semantic problem."
Gritz is scheduled to speak in idaho Falls on Friday 2/12/93
at 7 PM at the Civic Auditorium.
On Saturday 2/13/92 Gritz will teach a survivalist course at
nearby Shelly Idaho High School. The 12 hour class will cover
subjects such as combat medicine, survival defense, land
navigation, and emergency preparedness. Gritz says the reason
people are signing up for the course is that "we live in an age
where Dominios' Pizza can get to your house faster than the
police department."
So far 140 people have signed up for the class which costs
$100 for the first family member and $50 for each additional
family member. Accompanying Gritz as instructors are Scott David
Weekly, a former Navy Seal, Gary Goldman, a former Army Ranger,
and Dick Clark, a former Los Angeles Police Department
instructor. Gritz says he hopes to make a profit with the
program which will offer ten additional courses of increasing
difficulty. The programs are sponsored by an organization called
Saving America according to Jerry Gillespie of Mesa, AZ.
