Sorry for this long post, but I have you on record as once
having been a subscriber to the CONSTPARTY mailing list. A
lot of people left the list because of too much list traffic;
so this is just FYI and to leave the open invitation for
you to come back if you want to...the list format has
changed, which should make it easier for you if you want
to resubscribe ever. If this does not interest you at all
please just DEL this message.

For those of you reading this message for "former"
subscribers, obviously all the info. about being subscribed
to CP-DISCUSS automatically does not apply to you... I have
not added you back in, if you want to do this, you need
to subscribe as instructed below. This messages is "info"
only.

Regards, and Happy Thanksgiving!--Bob

TO:	ALL CONSTPARTY MAILING LIST SUBSCRIBERS

FROM:	BOB REINHARDT (breinhar@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu)

REF:	NEW ELECTRONIC MAILING LIST STRUCTURE AND INSTRUCTIONS

==============================================================

As discussed in previous email, the structure and naming
convention of the CONSTPARTY mailing lists will be changed.

This will occur effective 8 p.m. Eastern time, 22 Nov 94.

(Note: If you are getting this message after the above
time, don't panic, everything is OK, keep reading)...

Below I will describe the new structure of the lists and
their basic intent, with recommended way to use this. Then
I will describe how to change your subscription to these
various other accounts.

Please, whatever you do...If you don't understand how to
send email to the list processor administrative account
(noted by -request in the name) just send me private email
and I will manually configure you. Don't send email requesting
a subscription change to the entire list.

NEW LIST STRUCTURE
------------------

CP-NEWS@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu

For original news articles from CP H.Q.
No "subscribers" should post to this list
	directly. Therefore subscribers who want
ONLY this service can subscribe to this and
not the others. Probably only Geoff or
myself will post directly to this list; or
otherwise anyone who Geoff gives approval
to (write to Geoff to ask first).

CP-DISCUSS@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu

For reply and followup to any of the articles
in NEWS. A place for participants to originate
any article. Will also get a copy of everything
sent via -NEWS. This is where you should post
to if you have any doubt where you should post
	to.

CP-ORG@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu

Specifically for the discussion of the CP
organization, etc. From time to time, Geoff
might post the result of something "newsworthy"
from this area to the CP-NEWS list.

NEW DIGEST STRUCTURE
--------------------

CP-DISCUSS-DIGEST

The only one of the above lists I will provide a "digest" service for
is the "CP-DISCUSS" group, since it should be the only one with a lot
of general traffic on it, which some might rather see in digest form.

The digest is "read-only" do not send mail directly to the digest
address. Just subscribe to the -request of the digest address to
receive the digest form of the list.

ADDITIONAL ALIASES TO MAKE IT EASIER TO ADDRESS THE LISTS
---------------------------------------------------------

Since these new list names are rather long, and my host address
is long enough; I have created some shorter aliases to these lists
that you can use when directing messages to the list (note this
will not work for the -request address for each list). So, to make
this simpler on you, you can use the following addresses, also
at @tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu as an abbreviation of the respective
list:

CPN@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu, is same as CP-NEWS@....
CPD@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu, is same as CP-DISCUSS@....
CPO@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu, is same as CP-ORG@....

TRANSITION FROM CURRENT LIST TO THESE NEW LISTS
-----------------------------------------------

First thing is that I will alias the current address, CONSTPARTY@...
to CP-DISCUSS@... just for those people who don't pick up on this
change quick enough.

Secondly, I will be moving all the "file archives" from CONSTPARTY-REQUEST@...
to CP-DISCUSS-REQUEST@... so the normal "archive" commands, including
"get who" will still work. Except note that "get who" will be different
for each of the several lists, and you will have to "get who" from all
the CP lists if you want a complete list of subscribers.

Thirdly, all current subscribers will be put into the CP-DISCUSS
list initially. Then, it is up to you to follow the following instructions
to "unsubscribe" from this list (if that's what you want to do) and
"subscribe" to one of the other lists.

For example, *I* want to receive all list traffic, so I will subscribe
myself to both the CP-DISCUSS and CP-ORG lists. In this case there is
no need to subscribe to CP-NEWS, since as I've said above, all -NEWS
messages will be echoed to -DISCUSS. Now, if I don't want -DISCUSS,
but do want just -NEWS, I would subscribe only to that.

Note about CP-ORG. Only people who plan to be active in the discussion
with Geoff Turk regarding the CP organization nationally as well as their
own local chapter's, State, etc. should subscribe to this, unless of
course you just want to "listen" in on it.

Regardless about what I say in all of the above, Geoff Turk,
"constitution@earthlink.net" should make the call on any issues
of context on these lists, i.e. who should post to where, and what;
so please direct questions to him.

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO SUBSCRIBE OR UNSUBSCRIBE ANY OF THESE LISTS
------------------------------------------------------------------

This is "generic" for any of the procmail lists that I operate.

1. Subscribe and Unsubscribe Requests always go to the administrative
account of the list. The administrative account is the LISTNAME
given above plus "-request", for example:

	CP-NEWS-REQUEST@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu
	CP-DISCUSS-REQUEST@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu
	CP-DISCUSS-DIGEST-REQUEST@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu
	CP-ORG-REQUEST@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu

Put one of the above in the "TO" line of your administrative
message. Note, any "archive" commands for file "get" or "ls"
also go to the admin. account.

2. The SUBJECT of a subscribe or unsubscribe request must always
be " " blank, that's right, don't put anything in the
subject field. If you put something, like "xxxx" the automatic
request will fail most of the time.

Note: When sending an "archive" request, you do put "archive"
    in the SUBJECT field.

3. In the TEXT of a subscribe or unsubscribe request, you should only
enter ONE line of text, which is the word "subscribe" or "unsubscribe"
followed by a space and then your EMAIL address.

SUMMARY EXAMPLE
---------------

So, if I was subscribing to the CP-NEWS list, I would send the following
    message:

	To: CP-NEWS-REQUEST@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu
	Subject:
	Text: subscribe breinhar@tomahawk.welch.jhu.edu

I hope this new organization of the lists will help people get a better
service out of this chunk of cyberspace. p.s.- just a reminder though,
this is a FREE service I provide, all time voluntary; please remember
that when throwing flames.

Best Regards, Bob
