so that the gods may come back bringing an undivided view of life.

"This awe-inspiring Goddess is the personification of the good and
terrible mother, of the creator and destroyer in all its grandiose form
of life, love, death and destruction.  She is traditionally portrayed
as the Black Mother, squatting over her dead consort Shiva, eating his
entrails while her yoni is sexually devouring his lingam.  Worshipers
of Kali must accept death as part of her Curse for she represents both
sides of the coin of existience.  The Goddess was the personification
of the eternal living flux, from which all things rose and then
disappeared.  She was the material cause of all change, manifestation
and destruction.

"Blood was a strong part of Kali's worship as a traveler to her temple
in India reported:

"'The temple simply serves as a slaughterhouse, for those performing
the sacrifice retain their animals, leaving only the head in the
temple as a symbolic gift, while the blood flows to the Goddess.  For
to the Goddess is due the life blood of all creatures - since it is she
who has bestowed it - and that is why the beast must be slaughtered in
her temple.  That is why slaughterhouse and temple are one.

"'This rite is performed amid gruesome filth.  In the mud compounded of
blood and earth, the heads of animals are heaped up like trophies before
the statue of the Goddess, while those sacrificing return home for a 
family banquet of the bodies of their animals.  The Goddess desires only
the blood of the offerings, hence beheading is the form of sacrifice,
since the blood drains quickly from the beheaded beasts.... '"
