New Cable TV Series Promotes Masonry
N. POTOMAC, MARYLAND --- A new television series on Freemasonry is
being created by Capstone Productions, Inc. The series of half-hour
videos is called THE MASONIC TELEVISION FORUM(TM), according to
Jackson Polk, president and executive producer of Capstone
Productions.
The videos can be ordered by individuals or Masonic organizations
for use as Lodge programs and can also be shown on local access cable
television channels. Four programs will be issued during the first
year. The series is designed to provide information for Masons and to
educate non-Masons on the history, philosophy, and goals of
Freemasonry.
Subscribers to the FORUM will receive the series of four programs
on VHS videocassettes as well as an optional 3/4" broadcast videotape
of each program for play on the local cable access channels. Included
with the tapes are instructions on how to get free cable access air
time on most U.S. and Canadian local cable TV systems. The tapes can
be donated to libraries, and a public relations kit is sent to
subscribers that offers guidelines on how to get local newspapers to
publicize the program and the library donation.
The half-hour programs will use a newsmagazine format with
segments on current Masonic activities, historical events, symbolism,
philosophy, Masonic charities, book reviews, and profiles of
personalities.
The Masonic Information Center will advise Capstone Productions
on the content of the series. The Center has endorsed the Forum as
Freemasonry's newest voice in the television marketplace.
"We have worked with Capstone before, and we're enthusiastic
about Masonry getting a fair presentation with this regular program on
cable TV," said Richard Fletcher, chairman of the Center's steering
committee and executive secretary of the Masonic Service Association
of the United States. "I think the project is an excellent way for
Lodges to publicize the Fraternity by subscribing to the video series
and distributing the tapes."
The MASONIC TELEVISION FORUM has also been endorsed by the
executive board of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial
Association. "This new cable TV program helps explain Freemasonry to
the public," said Don Robey, executive secretary of the Association.
"It's a great idea at the right time."

6-14-95 background information letter
Dear Masons and friends:
THE MASONIC TELEVISION FORUM provides a great program for a Lodge
meeting once every three months with news and information about the
Masonic Fraternity. This program series is also an opportunity to
share the values and philosophy of Masonry with the public as a cable
TV program.
THE MASONIC TELEVISION FORUM is a TV newsmagazine that will
answer many frequently asked questions about Freemasonry. The series
will show how Masonry is structured, what the Fraternity is doing now,
and where to learn more about it.
THE MASONIC TELEVISION FORUM evolved after 5 years of independent
research which shows Freemasonry to be an integral part of our
history. Capstone Productions produced the White House and U.S.
Capitol Bicentennial videos in 1992 and 1993. In 1994, Capstone
produced THE HERITAGE OF AMERICAN PATRIOTISM for the National
Sojourners. Also in 1994, we produced the video called A TOUR OF THE
GEORGE WASHINGTON MASONIC NATIONAL MEMORIAL.
Both of these recent programs were produced as Lodge programs and also
to air on local cable access channels. They've done well with several
dozen cable showings sponsored by Masons in cities across the United
States.
Based on this experience, THE MASONIC TELEVISION FORUM can
succeed if enough Lodges and individuals subscribe to the new video
series. For just $240 per year, we will send four VHS tape programs
to each subscriber, one each quarter. As an option with initial
orders, subscribers can check the box on the order form and
additionally receive each program on a 3/4" broadcast format
videocassette at no additional cost. This 3/4" tape can be played on
local cable access channels in the U.S. and Canada, also at no cost in
most places, by following the instructions included with the tapes.
The idea is to make this an easy process, and suggestions are welcome.
If there is enough interest, we may also produce a European version.
The board of advisors for THE MASONIC TELEVISION FORUM include
Pete Normand, Secretary of The Masonic Information Center's steering
committee, Richard Curtis, Editor of The Northern Light, Dr. Brent
Morris, Book Review Editor of The Scottish Rite Journal, Robert E.
Davies, P.G.M. and Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge A.F.&A.M. of
Canada, and George O. Braatz, P.G.M. of the Grand Lodge F.&A.M. of
Ohio.
Thanks for your time to read this. Please feel free to contact
any of the Masons mentioned in this material for a reference on
Capstone Productions and this project. And also, please inform the
Masonic Lodges in your area about this opportunity. We need all the
help possible to make THE FORUM a success.
A relative handful of Masons could change the public's awareness
of Freemasonry on a national scale by airing the MASONIC TELEVISION
FORUM on their local cable access channels. Let us hear from you!
Thanks!
Jackson H. Polk
