this old favorite alt.magick "classic."  Eddie and/or Shava, are you
still out there?

On April 30, this year, go out after dark to a private place outside.  It
should be either on top of a hill, or next to a substantial body of water,
or on a mountain-top, or some such place.  It must be a sacred or holy 
place in some fashion, your "feel" that a place is such is sufficient.

* Go to the wild, dark, and unknown.  Go out to Mama Nature directly.
* Note the emphasis on what the INITIATE feels about the place.
* One presumes that this could be simplified to: Find Mystery Soon.
* Note also the date mentioned - Beltane - symbolically very powerful.

Strip yourself mother-naked, no jewelry or rubber-bands or anything. 

You will need an implement to draw blood.  A needle, razor, or sharp knife.
Please do this safely, you only need a *little* bit. Pricking your finger
is sufficient.

* Again, symbolically very instructive.  'Bare yourself before the gods'.
* I can just imagine Babalon or Kali smiling as we take razor to skin and
* demonstrate our willingness to undergo self-restriction, even self-
* destruction perhaps, in order to find our power.  Both of these things
* will intensify the feeling of danger, the anxiety about what one is
* doing, and enhance the potential transformation the event may catalyze.
* This reminds me strongly of the popular TOPY rites which involve
* the ritual use of one's own blood, spittle and sexual juices.  I gather
* that these are based upon very old rituals, though I've never seen
* these referenced.  People in this newsgroup HAVE referred to 'blood
* sacrifice' before, but I never got more information from them about it.

You must be able to construct a fire without using sulfur, or a petroleum
product, or potassium.  Build a small fire (again, don't burn the place down,
think safety).  Build it soon, and let it go down to coals. 

* This is an important aspect of preparation.  We've taken something from
* ourselves (clothes), are ready to extract more (blood) and now we construct
* something (fire) in order to initiate the rite.  That it is built soon
* and let down to coals is an indicator that it is not the flame which is
* important but the coals and activity itself which are valuable.

Lie down, and stare at the stars.  Eventually, one in particular will make
itself known to you.  There is a Guardian associated with the Star. Ignore
any and all other feelings, contacts, visualizations, or any other "spirit-
encounter" you may experience.  Do not leave at this point, under any 
circumstances. 

* Here is the precoding; the symbol-system from which one will be able to
* create/understand one's experience during this rite.  Whether it 'really'
* happens or not is a matter for cynics to debate.  The point is that this
* paragraph sets the stage for such an experience and, if sincerely followed,
* this rite will yield important subjective results.

Respond only to a presence from the star itself.  When you sense that the
star is growing toward you, prick yourself, and offer it a drop of blood. 
the light of the star should grow toward you, manifesting itself as a 
darkness (yes, I meant that, this isn't all a normal physical thing). If 
it slows, offer another drop of blood.  Do not offer more than 9 drops, 
no matter what. It should grow and engulf you.

* Here we begin to approach mystery.  There are countless questions the
* aspirant will ask about this procedure.  Why only to the star? I'd
* suggest it keeps out distraction from our focus.  Perhaps also it
* will allow us to focus on a familiar 'light-thing', i.e. a distant
* element of our consciousness which is quite connected to the Void of
* the surrounding space.  We are not yet ready to communicate with
* the Void, so we look for a 'go-between'.
* Why offer it blood?  If nothing else, this is an important symbolic
* expression indicating our fervent desire for the connection which
* the rite may make possible.  That Bunny sets a limit on the number
* of drops (9 - lunar) and that he describes what 'should' happen, sets
* the stage for the event to take place.  The aspirant will feel anxious.
* 'Will this work?'  'Am I doing it right?'  'Is this crazy?'  Etc.
* As the number of drops of blood increases (unless they are ripe)
* the anxiety will only increase.  If 'it' hasn't happened by the
* pre-determined drop number, then the aspirant is simply not ready.

What relationship you and your Guardian work out is pretty much up to the
two of you ( use the term two loosely).  You will probably be disoriented
for an indeterminate time, seconds to days or even weeks, depending on 
your coping mechanisms. ...

Have fun, and don't bug me about it if you screw it up.  Don't do anything
except what I said, do it alone, and do not vary the instructions. 
Possession by major powers and principalities is no joke, and you will be
changed by the experience, so don't think that you'll come back the same
person as in you went. The chapel perilous has many temptations and even
the successfull ones are permanently altered.  The literary and historical
warnings are legion, take heed. 

* Here Bunny shows the genuineness of his intent.  That he leaves it up to
* Daniel and the 'Guardian' to devise their own relationship is the mark of
* a mage who truly cares.  I've seen countless people try to define this
* for the aspirant too, as if their own experience/relationship was the
* only one posssible.  Absolute Truth is a dangerous trap.  Much like
* medicine/food, each person varies according to their own nature in the
* reaction to the stimulus involved.  None are 'more right' than any other.
