Ira, your comments regarding the Illuminati provoked a response from a
participant in the "New Paradigms Discussion List" that might interest you.

Though, I agree with him that much of the manipulation of events which he
cites was in fact manipulated by ruling elites, I do not attribute it to
the Illuminati, at least not the Illuminati founded by Adam Weishaupt in
1776.

As an "extremist" Enlightenment era secret movement within Masonry it did
tend to serve the geopolitical interests arrayed against the Catholic
Church that culminated in the French Revolution, but it certainly did not
and does not have the central "world directing" role often attributed to it
my the conspiracy writers cited by Mr. Duck.

I think you have the general concept of "illuminati" nailed in your
statement which Mr. Duck quotes below.  However, you did not comment
directly on the infamous Illuminati of Weishaupt.

I have read some of the ongoing debate between Mr. Straus and Mr.
Daugherty regarding the subject of world conspiracy and social
organisms.  Permit me to copy a section of the book, Fourth Reich of
the Rich by Des Griffin (I don't know if there is a relationship
between Des Griffin and G. Edward Griffin, author of the oft-praised
book, The Creature from Jekyll Island, on the creation of The Federal
Reserve).  Pages 92-95.

        GREAT DEPRESSION ... AND FDR

   While the bankers and industrialists were busy building up the
oppressive strength of the Soviet regime, they were also secretly
planning to take the American people to the cleaners.  After a trial
run in 1921, they were all set to stage the Crash of 1929 and the
Great Depression that followed.

   On February 6, 1929, Montagu Norman, head of the Bank of England,
arrived in Washington to confer with the Secretary of the Treasury,
Andrew Mellon.  Shortly thereafter the Fed reversed its easy money
policy that had been in effect for more than six years, and began to
raise the discount rate.

   A timely warning went out to those in the know.  Paul Warburg was
quoted in the Financial Chronicle, March 9, 1929: "If orgies of
unrestricted speculation are permitted to spread too far ... the
ultimate crash is certain."  During the following six months those in
the know sold out of the stock market when prices were high and
reinvested their money in silver and gold.

   "When everything was ready, the New York financiers started calling
24 hour broker call loans.  This meant that the stock brokers and their
customers had to dump their stock on the market in order to pay the
loans.  This naturally collapsed the market and brought a banking
collapse all over the country because the banks not owned by the
oligarchy were heavily involved in broker call claims at this time,
and bank runs soon exhausted their coin and currency and they had to
close.  The Federal Reserve System would not come to their aid,
although they were instructed under the law to maintain an elastic
currency" (The United States' Unresolved Monetary and Political
Problems, by William Bryan).

   Congressman Louis T. McFadden, outspoken Chairman of the House Banking
and Currency Committee, understood the cause of the Great Depression:
"It was no accident.  It was a carefully contrived occurrence... The
International Bankers sought to bring about a condition of despair
here so that they might emerge as rulers of us all" (The Speeches of
Congressman Louis T. McFadden).

   As a result of the Crash, business was thrown into a state of chaos.
Tens of thousands of companies were forced to close down.  Millions
lost their jobs and were forced to join the soup lines.  Several
millionaires lost all they had and committed suicide.

   By 1932 the economy showed distinct signs of staging a major recovery.
An air of hope and confidence once again began to flow through the
nation.

   Although the economic prospects looked promising the Internationalists
had other plans for the American people.  During the presidential
campaign of 1932, Franklin D. Roosevelt presented a strong
conservative image to the electorate.  But rumors began to spread
across the country that his platform did not represent his true views
and intentions, and that basic changes in the entire economic, social
and governmental systems were in the works.  When Roosevelt was
elected in November these rumors became rampant.  The president-elect
would neither confirm nor deny them.  The 1932 election was the last
one after which the actual inauguration took place the following
March, rather than January.  The long wait and the growing public
uncertainty brought about what amounted to a "second depression" --
politically created  -- of paralyzing impact.  The resulting public
panic caused a nationwide run on the banks, forcing many to close
their doors by the time of FDR's inauguration.


   As a result, Roosevelt came to power in an atmosphere of great crisis
which he, and the powers behind the scenes, had deliberately created.
Roosevelt immediately undertook the long-rumored changes in our
governmental system and way of life.  Federal commissions and
regulatory boards were given power to control at will almost every
business transaction anywhere in America, and to enforce their will by
imposing both civil and criminal penalties.  Constitutional
restrictions on the exercise of this kind of authority and force were
swept away.  Congress became subservient to a greater degree than ever
before in our history; it did exactly what the president asked --
impelled by the crisis atmosphere the president himself had created,
and by the constant, cleverly-applied pressure of the Fabians and the
Fabian-indoctrinated whom the president had installed in so many key
Federal offices.

   In short, the Roosevelt Administration attempted to inflict on the
nation every last phase of Clinton Roosevelt's Illuminist blueprint
for destroying our Constitution and form of government -- on the
pretext of establishing a "new social order," or New Deal as he
ironically labeled it.  They immediately placed the insignia of the
Illuminati, in the form of the reverse side of the Great Seal of the
United States, on our currency (their one dollar notes), thus openly
declaring the attainment of their conspiracy -- their "Novus Ordo
Seclorum" or "New Deal."

   This insignia was adopted by Weishaupt at the time he founded the
Order of the Illumninati on May 1, 1776.  It was that event that is
memorialized by the "MDCCLXXVI" at the base of the pyramid and not the
date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, as the
uninformed have supposed.  This insignia acquired Masonic significance
only after the merger of that Order with the Order of the Illuminati
at the Congress of Wilhelmsbad, in 1782.

   Note the wording on the insignia: "Annuit Coeptis" means "our

enterprise [conspiracy] has been crowned with success."  Underneath,
we find the words "Novus Order{sic} Seclorum."  This explains the
nature of their conspiracy, the creation of a New World Order.

Texxe Marrs in his book, Mystery Mark of the New Age, p. 103 states:
   The Sun God with his all-seeing eye later became known as Horus,
and it is he who is mysteriously shown on our U.S.A. dollar bills in
the capstone of the pyramid (the reverse side of the Great Seal).  The
U.S. Treasury Department has verified to me in a letter that this
symbol did, in fact, have its origins in Egypt and that the committee
formed in the eighteenth century to design the seal ... intended to
present the new nation of the United States of America as a successor
of the ancient government and culture of Egypt!

Again, in his book, Dark Majesty, Marrs states:
   James G. Martin, a 33-degree Mason who is Governor of North
Carolina and a leading Republican party big-wig, has warmly praised
President Bush's plans for a "New World Order."  Writing in Raleigh's
daily newspaper, The News and Observer (Mar. 24, 1991), Martin stated,
"President George Bush ... has revitalized an old but timely idea: the
realization of a New World Order."
   Martin noted that this was the same visionary idea as depicted on
our U.S. one dollar bill -- the all-seeing eye above the pyramid with
the Latin inscription below of Novus Ordo Seclorum.  This, Martin
explained, is interpreted as either "A New Order of the Age," "a New
Secular (or Worldly) Order," or simply a "New World Order."
   Unfortunately, in his article Governor Martin failed to tell
readers these significant facts: that the pyramid and its all-seeing
eye was first printed on the U.S. dollar bill in the 1930s at the
insistence of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a Mason, and his vice
president, Henry Wallace.  Wallace, a fellow Mason as well as an
ardent communist sympathizer, later ran for president as a Socialist.

Ralph Epperson in The Unseen Hand, p. 84 writes:
   In 1798, shortly after the publication of Professor Robison's work
on the Illuminati {Proofs of a Conspiracy, by John Robison}, American
minister Reverend G.W. Snyder sent a copy of the book to President
George Washington, who was a very visible member of the Masonic Order.
On September 25, 1798, President Washington wrote a letter to Rev.
Snyder: "I have heard much of the nefarious and dangerous plan and
doctrines of the Illuminati, but never saw the book until you were
pleased to send it to me.  It was not my intention to doubt that the
doctrine of the Illuminati had not spread in the United States.  On
the contrary, no one is more satisfied of this fact than I am...."

On pages 132-133, Epperson writes:
   But the pressure to re-charter the Bank started the next year when
England started the War of 1812 against the United States.  this was
intended to force the United States into a position of needing a
central bank to pay for the costs of the war, thus creating interest
payments and debt.  It was hoped by the English bankers that the
Americans would re-charter the First National Bank, or create another
under a different name.
   Two Americans, Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun, were early
supporters of the American government's entry into the War of 1812.
The were also the main supporters of creating another bank under
another name: The Second Bank of the United States.
   ...
   Some Americans saw the war as the workings of a conspiracy.  One,
for instance, was the president of Harvard, Joseph Willard, who made
what is now a famous speech declaring the involvement of the secret
Illuminati in the events of the day.  He said, on July 4, 1812: "There
is sufficient evidence that a number of societies of the Illuminati
have been established in this land.  They are doubtless striving to
secretly undermine all our ancient institutions, civil and sacred.
These societies are clearly leagued with those of the same order in
Europe.  The enemies of all order are seeking our ruin.  Should
infidelity generally prevail, our independence would fall of course.
Our republican government would be annihilated...."
   Unfortunately, the American people did not heed his warnings and
the conspiracy continued its deadly work in the United States.

Nesta Webster, in her Secret Societies and Subversive Movements,
quotes Disraeli in the House of Commons, July 14, 1856:
   "There is in Italy a power which we seldom mention in this House
... I mean the secret societies ... It is useless to deny, because it
is impossible to conceal, that a great part of Europe -- the whole of
Italy and France and a great portion of Germany, to say nothing of
other countries -- is covered with a network of these secret
societies, just as the superficies of the earth is now being covered
with railroads.  They do not want constitutional government; they do
not want ameliorated institutions ... they want to change the tenure
of land, to drive out the present owners of the soil and to put an end
to ecclesiastical establishments.  Some of them may go further ... "

In Surrender of an Empire, she writes:
   Lord Whittenham described the impotence that seemed to come over
each Home Secretary in turn: "When Sir George Cave became Home
Secretary ... I said to him, 'I am thankful you have come.  Now we are
going to have the real article.'  Again there was this subtle,
indescribable influence which, whenever he wanted to be bold, seemed
to paralyze him."
   "There is an influence in this country to-day behind these aliens,"
declared Lord Beresford.  "What it is I do not know.  We hear of
'hidden hands' and of other suggestions of that character, but there
is an influence, there has been an influence all through the War, and
the sooner we can get to the bottom of it and find out what that
influence is the better."
   ...
   My personal experience during the War compel me to believe that
these suspicions were well founded.  Owing to the fact that my husband
was officially employed to make investigations, and that our house,
overlooking the Sussex Weald, commanded a wide view over the
surrounding country, we frequently received visits from officers sent
down to make inquiries in the district.  I well remember on several
occasions  hearing these men employing the same phrase: "It is no good
reporting all this.  No notice will be taken.  We are up against a
brick wall."
   How often were we to come up against that brick wall in future!

In the Foreward of The Socialist Network, she states:
   In this little book I lay no claim to infallibility; indeed, I do
not believe it would be possible for a single human brain to master
all the details of this bewildering network and to avoid going wrong
on some point -- an international committee of experts would be needed
to achieve such a result.

Webster shows evidence of strong similarity between the Illuminism of
Adam Weishaupt and the Socialism of Karl Marx in their underlying
methodologies.

Woodrow Wilson is quoted as having said, "There is a power somewhere
so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so
pervasive that they better not speak above their breath when they
speak in condemnation of it."

And so on...  Are these plots and plans made in secret?  Yes.  Are
they of a criminal nature?  Most definitely.  Do they involve more
than one individual in execution?  Absolutely.  Therefore, they fit
the definition of a conspiracy.  Mind boggling in depth and breadth,
spanning all nationalism and ethnicity, contrary to all nationalism
and individualism, intimidating lords and presidents, chaotic in
influence upon all human society, spreading social disease through
secret societies.  WHAT IS IT?  WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?  Its presence
is undeniable, from criminal-favoring local courts to totalitarian-
favoring world assemblies.  Even international banking and
multinational corporations are merely the tools of its power.  You
cannot really say it is only a social construct, because it spans many
societies -- some allied, some opposing one another, and some
independent, but all influenced by forces working in concert to
subvert social order and to promote death, destruction, and chaos.

Well, I'll leave it with you.  It can be ignored by the simple (the
ignorant generally do dismiss it with blind denial), but those who
rise to power cannot ignore it as you may see by reading.  Don't be
surprised if some people get agitated, irritated, uneasy, or angry
when you try to broach the subject though.
