Quija derived from GD Ring and Disk?
In my opinion the GD technique of ring and disk,
rediscovered by Mathers from Graeco roman sources, may well
be the forerunner of Ouija boards. It avoids the worst
pitfalls of passive mediumship inherent in Ouija. The board
and the disk used to consult it are consecrated with
appropriate talismans for the gods, or spirits you want to
commune with. This in itself is a form of protection, as you
are excluding from the equation the kinds of astral junk
that turn up for more amateur sessions.
