A New Fairy Tail

Once upon a time, there lived in nearby Golethea, a beautiful
young girl by the name of Zebryanna. She lived in a small
house by the edge of the Bay of Golegone, which was the
largest and deepest entrance to and from Golethea. Zebryanna
took her name from her great grandmother, who was almost
legendary in her abilities to communicate, by words and
thought, to the birds and mammals of the Great Sea.

When Zebryanna was quite small, her grandmother used to take
her to a small cove nearby, where Zebryanna was given to know
the secret of speaking to the dolphins and to the whales of
that area. She was a fast learner, for she loved the beings
so, and the beings returned her affection happily.

One day, after a terrible storm at sea, Zebryanna and her
grandmother were standing at the edge of "their" cove to feed
and sooth the feelings of the many smaller dolphin and whales
that were much upset by the heavy seas. All around them
could be heard cries of distress! Then all at once it
happened! A large herd of Nisenthoks swam into the cove and
at once began snapping and biting the baby dolphins, who
couldn't escape the blocked entrance. Now for you that don't
know this, Nisenthoks don't belong in this part of the world.
They come from no one knows where, and have long since become
so disliked that they are shunned wherever they appear. They
are green and slippery, looking like elongated eels that
sting and bite. Zebryanna and her grandmother didn't ever
like very much the Nisenthoks. She and her grandmother
called out for them to leave immediately--but none took
notice.

To their great dismay, many of the small dolphins and even a
few blue seals were now missing, and there was furious
thrashing about by all concerned! What could they do!

All of a sudden, the most amazing thing either of them had
ever seen now began to occur! At first two, then six, and
now twelve beautiful blue and silver dolphins shot straight
up out of the water, back and forth making great splashes and
dives. And out by the cove entrance they could now see a
Great Blue Whale, even spouting water up into the air for all
to see! What was going on? The large dolphins were rapidly
driving and pushing the dreaded Nisenthoks into a cluster and
then towards the whale which awaited all this from the cove
entrance. In less time than it takes to tell you, it was all
over. The Blue Whale took his new cargo away, to this day I
know not where. The large dolphins saluted in their special
way of doing, and swam away. Once again there was peace
within all. That is, but for Zebryanna, still uncertain.
Zebryanna asked her great grandmother what had happened to
have brought such wonderful help. Her grandmother looked
down at Zebryanna, smiled wisely and quietly replied, "Study
well thy lessons--and you will learn to do that too".
"I promise". By Ian Thomas Cooper
