Questions and Answers about PhotoReading
========================================

What is PhotoReading?
---------------------
PhotoReading is the process of "mentally photographing" the printed page
with the other-than-conscious mind at rates exceeding a page per second.
It is part of a larger whole mind system which gives readers skills to
approach any type of material and pull from it what they need in the time
available. The five steps are: prepare, preview, PhotoRead, activate, and
rapid read.

Is PhotoReading like speed reading?
-----------------------------------
Speed reading is more or less hastened reading. Unfortunately, it is
generally associated with stress and lower comprehension. Both reading and
speed reading are predominantly functions of the "left brain." This is the
analytical and reasoning part of the brain that is associated with the
conscious mind. It is limited to handling around seven pieces of
information at a time.
PhotoReading, on the other hand, is a function of the "right brain."
This is the creative and intuitive part of the brain and is associated with
the other-than-conscious mind. This is the 90% of the mind that Albert
Einstein said most people never tap. It can process 20,000 pieces of
information at a time.
Regular reading inputs information one word at a time which forces a slow,
linear process of analyzing the information. PhotoReading, on the other
hand, inputs pages of information which allows accelerated processing and
more complete analysis at a later time.
PhotoReading, therefore, is an entirely different process from reading and
speed reading.

Do you know what is in a book after PhotoReading it?
----------------------------------------------------
Since PhotoRead material is processed in the "other-than-conscious" part of
the mind, you may not consciously "know" what is in materials after
PhotoReading. The information must be "activated" into the conscious mind.
Through activation the PhotoReader builds increasing levels of conscious
comprehension. You begin gaining awareness, move to a sense of familiarity,
and finally achieve the knowledge you desire.
"Spontaneous" activation is when a want or need for information causes it
to come into the conscious mind from the other-than-conscious. Activated
information "feels different" than recalled information. It may feel like a
hunch or intuition. Since it is different, many people who do not regularly
use their intuitive or right brain may find it difficult to recognize
information which is activated spontaneously. These people are served best
by "manual" activation.
"Manual" activation is when an individual performs "left brain" functions
to bring information into the conscious mind. These activation techniques
include, but are not limited to, processes called mind probing, super
reading, dipping, and mind mapping. Activation takes as little as one-tenth
the time it would take to read something regularly.

Can anyone PhotoRead?
---------------------
Everyone is born with the natural ability to effortlessly absorb information
into the other-than-conscious mind. How else can a child learn a complex
spoken language in such a short period? Or learn to walk?
If you know a pre-school child, say something to her that she doesn't
understand, such as the phrase "activated into the conscious mind." Watch
her eyes glaze over as the information is absorbed and processed. She does
not recognize the phrase as words, but rather it is absorbed as a thought.
When a child begins school, she learns another way of learning: input
information one word at a time, analyze it in the conscious mind, rehearse
it often, and hope it will be stored. By the time a child reaches
adolescence, she loses touch with the natural ability to absorb information.
In the PhotoReading program we help you awaken this lost natural ability.
We point you in the right direction, teach you PhotoReading techniques, and
let you go at it. Soon you rediscover this ability and begin to use it in
your personal and professional life. As you play with the PhotoReading
techniques you will regain more and more of your ability to absorb
information.
There are four types of people who may have problems PhotoReading.
  1) People who are overly left-brained and analytical, or who are too
     skeptical.
When you analyze something you are primarily using your conscious mind.
If you try to analyze PhotoReading, an other-than-conscious process,
you may ruin the experience and become frustrated. We suggest that you
approach PhotoReading with a childlike curiosity. Know that
PhotoReading works and be open to the possibility of it working for
you. If it works, you will get a whole new set of skills that will
forever change the way you process information. If it does not work,
you have experienced a mind-opening class, learned techniques for using
your brain more effectively, met growth-oriented people, and you have an
instructor will work with you until you get it. You even may repeat
the program in most locations for no additional and you are supported
   with a money-back satisfaction guarantee.

  2) People who desperately need PhotoReading.
This includes students who are behind in their studies or professionals
who are hopelessly lost. These people tend to force the techniques. Since
the other-than-conscious does not react favorably to force, blocks emerge.
These individuals should postpone PhotoReading until their life has eased.

  3) People who expect too much.
Learning and mastering PhotoReading is not an overnight process.
Expecting such a miracle creates frustration which can hinder the learning
process. We suggest that you have a positive expectancy, but do not force
  timelines.

  4) People who have control issues.
PhotoReading involves lessening the reins of control on the conscious mind
to better gain control of the other-than-conscious. This can be
challenging and frightening for some people. If this is you, we suggest
using the PhotoReading classroom as a safe haven. Soon you will feel
comfortable with letting go outside the classroom as you master the
  PhotoReading whole mind system.

How long does it take to learn?
-------------------------------
The course consists of four, full-day sessions over several weeks. For
several weeks after completing the course, graduates are asked to PhotoRead
at least three books daily to develop the process. Most people are able to
integrate the PhotoReading whole mind system within a month, though they
will experience benefits immediately.

What is the process of PhotoReading?
------------------------------------
The PhotoReading technique involves entering an accelerative learning state.
This is a relaxed state of alertness. Second, establish a clear purpose and
affirm your ability to process the information. Third, PhotoFocus on the
first page of the materials. This unique way to focus uses peripheral
vision and opens channels to the other-than-conscious. Fourth, page through
the book one page per second while maintaining a steady state. This exposes
information directly to the brain's preconscious processor. Finally, bring
closure to the process by affirming that all you have PhotoRead has made a
lasting impression on your inner mind.

Can you PhotoRead any type of printed material, or just books?
--------------------------------------------------------------
PhotoReading tends to work best with multiple pages. Rhythmic page turning
seems to be important when learning the process. Other techniques in the
system are better suited for single pages.

Does it work on technical materials?
------------------------------------
A resounding "yes." The advanced PhotoReading skills can be applied to any
type of printed material. If it takes more time to process technical
materials with regular reading, it also takes more time with the
PhotoReading system. PhotoReading, however, allows you to process materials
at an accelerated pace.
If it takes you twelve hours with your current reading skills to gain full
comprehension from something, whether it is a three page highly technical
report or a 300 page book, you will spend 60-90 minutes using the
PhotoReading whole mind system to get the same or better comprehension. You
will only spend a few minutes PhotoReading. The rest of the time will be
spent activating and learning the materials.

Can you enjoy a novel with PhotoReading?
----------------------------------------
Immediately after PhotoReading a novel, you can experience an aesthetic
feeling of the book. From this you can determine whether it is worth
spending more time with it. If you choose, you may then read the book.
PhotoReaders discover two exciting things:
First, normal reading rates double or triple. This is a natural
by-product of PhotoReading that occurs when reading becomes a whole mind
experience.
Second, the story seems richer, the characters fuller, and there is a
feeling of familiarity with the book that is normally absent. One graduate
remarked, "I've rediscovered the joy of reading."

What is the history of PhotoReading?
------------------------------------
A few individuals employ PhotoReading techniques involuntarily, but they
have been unable to teach the process to others. In 1985, Paul Scheele,
co-founder of Learning Strategies Corporation, studied the technique of
"mentally photographing" printed materials. He combined the human
development technologies of accelerative learning, neuro-linguistic
programming (NLP) and preconscious processing into a program that
effectively teaches you to use the natural right brain absorption faculties.
Learning Strategies Corporation was founded in 1981. In 1986 it was
licensed as a Private School by the Minnesota Department of Education. The
course is now taught around the world by instructors personally trained in
the Minneapolis, Minnesota headquarters.
Since professionals cannot now assimilate required information, and since
world currency has become information, the development of techniques as
powerful as PhotoReading is necessary and timely. Additionally, the profound
confidence and new awareness that come from tapping into the
other-than-conscious mind can have a mighty and lasting effect on a person's
life.
