Alleged Holographic Artifacts
=============================

[From: TEXJE@vaxb.hw.ac.uk (James Easton)]

The long awaited public appearance of these artifacts took place on
"Schofield's Quest", last Sunday evening.

Philip Schofield introduces the article:

"A story of ancient artifacts, mysterious engravings and one man's
belief that he has put his hands on a historical relic of enormous
religious significance.

That man's name is Jim Willis, he comes from Liverpool and I spoke to
him earlier about his strange find."

Program cuts to pre-recorded interview, with the infamous cups and
saucers, 4 of each, sitting on a table in the background. A reflection
from 2 of the saucers, which are at the rear of the table, is seen
against a white screen placed behind the table. It is impossible to
clearly see the image being generated.

PS: Jim, what is so special about these cups?

JW: "Well, I've asked myself that question many times before and
I keep coming up with the same answers...the vessels themselves
are "references", ...even though they resemble cups and saucers,
there's no waste...there's ancient writing, holograms and
picture writing. And that's as far as I've got.

I'd like to think they were part of Genesis and the Ark 'cause
    no-one knows what they are."

PS: Whereabouts did you get them from?

The camera switches to the background reflections from the 2 saucers.
There is no discernable image, simply a reflection of light.

JW: "Well, it may weaken the story, but we bought them at a car
    boot sale."

PS: "How did you discover that there was something different?"

JW: "Well, my little boy discovered them, we were sitting at
home when I brought them back, the T.V. was on, the lamp was
on and I mention this because light's important and he was
saying, "look at the litle faces" and he was laughing. I
said to my wife, "there's nothing on them", so he started
getting upset and I said, "I'll tell you what, I'll sit
where you are and I'll take it from there."

    And he was right."

Five images, blown up images from the artifacts surface and
are then shown as the dialogue continues.

PS: "And how did he see the faces?"

JW: "It was under the metal, it seems to be baked _under_ the
metal and we just seen all the characters, all the people,
all coming out of them. When I say people, it looks like
cartoon drawings. I didn't know what that was 'till I started
researching into it and then I realised we had something of
    great importance indeed."

PS: "What do you think the significance is?"

JW: "Well, I believe these vessels have the story of the deluge
(the Biblical flood) on them...and of course when the people
accumulated again..they were all given their calenders to
separate up the language (sic) and that's very important,
    this is Genesis."

Back to the live program.

PS "So, is Jim right? With his co-operation we called in the
expert services of David Miles, who is an archaeologist with
the Oxford Archaeological Unit and he's with us know.

So, you've looked at the cups themselves, what do you think?"

DM: "That's right Philip, but people have been looking for the
Holy Grail for, I suppose, a thousand years and so I was
fairly sceptical about these when I first heard about them.

When I examined them, it appeared to me they'd been made with
a power glaze, which would mean that they were relatively
modern. However, things are not always what they seem, so
we decided to put them through the laboratories in Oxford
which analyse archaeological material, and where the Turin
Shroud was analysed, and from them we got more analytical
    detail."

PS: "Which was?"

DM: "Well, what we found was that these vessels are made out of
brass. Now, brass hasbeen around for about two and a half
thousand years, when it was invented in north western India,
so, they could be old. However, when you look at the
composition of the brass, it contains 40% zinc and the
actual mix of metal is a type of recipe that in fact was
developed in 1832, when it was patented by George Munt (sp),
    who..."

PS: (Interrupting): Is there anything unusual about them?

DM: "Well, what's unusual about them is that they are in fact
made in two layers, which is probably for insulation, and
it's a peculiar material to make what appear to be cups and
saucers, which I suspect were made somewhere like the
Birmingham area in the nineteenth century."

PS: "O.K., thank you very much indeed for that. So, we told Jim
Willis in advance about David's opinion and Jim remains
firmly convinced that his find is of much greater antiquity
and significance. Is he right? Can you help him? Call us
on......if you own anything similar, anything like these
cups and saucers, have you ever seen their like before, are
you the man who sold them to Jim?"

And that was it. Well, actually, it wasn't. As the program was winding
up, Philip Schofield says:

PS: "A couple of updates then, so, Jim's cups, we've got Shar
Lou (sp), an architect based in Peking University, phoned
in to say she assessed the photos of Jim's cups for the
Liverpool Echo, she thought the Chinese mother and baby
images are very like those she has seen on ancient Chinese
    temples."

Whaaaaat? Which photos, where are they, why weren't they shown?

Good grief.

All in all, given the format of the program, it was no more than we
could reasonably expect. On the plus side, there is a good chance
someone may be able to solve this mystery and we will get to hear
about it next week or sometime thereafter.

On the down side....where to begin.

No comment whatsoever on the engravings, no holographic images, not
even photographs and no comment whatoever on the magnified images
shown.

Fortunately, having taped this, I have been able to consider these at
some length. And I can see what makes these artifacts so unusual.
The magnified images contain an extraordinary amount of detail. They
are very subjective in that you can see more than one thing and many
people will see different images therein, which is consistent with the
comments I have heard from people who have seen them previously.

The brain will attempt to make sense out of any random sequence of
patterns and that seems to be what is happening here. However, it's
not as straightforward as that. Some of the apparent images are quite
clear. For example, the third image looks like it shows a female
Bhuddist icon, i.e. with the arms outstretched, forearm and hands
pointing straight upwards and the legs splayed. This image appears to
be enclosed within a triangle, beneath which is a mandala icon. At
the bottom of the picture there seems to be a large crowd. It is
noticeable that the right hand side of the picture appears to be
bathed in a golden light.

All in the mind? Perhaps, but I can understand the fascination with
these artifacts. They really are remarkable.

Some of the other images clearly seem to be bizarre and somewhat
frightening creatures, one almost resembling a little "grey", others
more sinister.

Images blend into one another and any one image may also form part of
a larger image.

The most remarkable thing of all, and this applies to all five images
shown, is their symmetry. They are almost completely symmetrical,
i.e., if you cut each picture down the middle, deleted the right half
of the picture and then copied a *mirror* image of the left half over
to the right half, you would to all intents have the original picture
you started with.

Given the intricate detail and not forgetting we are talking about
minute images, possibly numbering hundreds or even thousands, there
seems to be more to these artifacts than is first obvious.

I had recently com upon a posting mentioning the alleged Beacon Stone
artifact and having read this again, I was somewhat taken aback by
it's content.
