  Ancient Monuments, Ancient Knowledge

Part 1

Eileen Verbeke

Many people, including Edgar Cayce, David Davison and Piazzi
Smyth have held the belief that the ancient monuments of the
world - especially those of Egypt - may in some way foretell
the worlds past and future. Many believe the monuments of Egypt
were ne ver intended to be the tombs of Pharoh's.....but
something more. There is some evidence that this may be the
case, especially if we consider some interesting facts.

The Sphinx measures 240 feet in length, is 66 feet in height,
and the width at the face is 13 feet 8 inches. The body lies
East-West; the eyes look due East. The Great Pyramid, also
called the Pyramid of Cheops or Khufu, has a square base, 756
feet on a side. It is 481 feet high, and the four slopes
measure upward at an angle of 51 degrees 52 minutes. The sides
align with the four points North, South, East and West of the
compass. The angles of the slopes is related to the figure pi
in that two times th e side divided by the height gives the
figure of 3.14345, which is remarkably close to the exact value
of pi. Also significant is that the angle is 1/7 the
circumference of the heavens, or 360/7.

A temple to the West of the Colossi of Memnon has an axis which
passes between the two stone figures of the Colossi. Both the
axis and the statues are directed Eastward. The Amon-Ra temple
of Karnak has it's axis built to a point 117 degrees East of
Nort h, parallel to the line between the Colossi of Memnon, on
either side of the Nile. The Mut temple complex contains a
temple with a lake in a crescent shape. To the West was a
parallel temple and to the North a transverse temple. The
temples along with ot her buildings were built to a rectangular
grid, which was rotated by an 8 degree angle to the Amon-Ra
grid. Calculations made show the axis of the Amon-Ra temple
would have pointed directly to the sunrise at midwinter solstice
in the Eighteenth Dynasty. The Mut grid pointed to the new
summer moon's setting - the first crescent after the solstice.
At this point of setting, the crescent had it's lowest Southerly
position in it's 18.6 year cycle. It then moved over the Valley
of Kings, site of burial for Eg yptian Royalty, where it reached
it's most Northerly position. When at this Northerly extreme,
it could be coupled to the grid lines of the main temple of
"Khonsu The Child", the "moon child" located within the walls of
the Amon-Ra complex. The Great Pyra mid as well as the other
pyramids of Gizeh and the Sphinx appear to be aligned to the
sunrise of the Equinox.

These angles and alignments have a relationship to the 18 year
eclipse cycle (of 223 lunations) as well as the 18.6 year nodal
cycle of the moon. The sun god "Ra" was of chief importance in
Egyptian worship. The interplay of the moon and sun was of deep
significance to the Egyptians, and the inscriptions on - as
well as the placements of - their monuments testify to this.
Hieroglyphics found in one pyramid state, "Heaven has made
strong the rays of the sun and you can lift yourself to heaven
like the Eye of RA". Copies of the Egyptian Book Of The Dead,
a sacred religious text, were found in the pyramids of Unas and
Teta as well as those of Pepi I and his immediate successors.
The sun god Ra has a place of the utmost importance in this
book. The soul of t he deceased finds it's way to Ra in heaven
where Ra can give it a place in the "bark of millions of years"
so that it may sail over the sky with Ra.

That there may be some astrological, as well as religious
significance to the figure of the sphinx is demonstrated in it's
physical makeup. It has the face of a man, the wings of an
eagle, the paws of a lion and the body of a bull. This can be
compared t o the signs of Aquarius (man); Scorpio (eagle); Leo
(the lion) and Taurus (the bull) known in astrology as the
"fixed cross" - each sign lying 90 degrees from the other
before it. This figure of the Sphinx also bears a strong
resemblance to the descriptio n of the "heavenly visitors" seen
by Ezechiel. But alas, the great stone figure with it's solemn
face cannot speak, cannot tell what the true significance of
these puzzling edifices is. It may be a combination of
astrological, spiritual and astronomical. That the grids and
numerical measurements are somehow trying to relay a message to
us seems to be repeated in another ancient text, the Bible.

We can examine this in Part 2.
