An archive of alt.backrubs postings has been made available at
ftp.csd.uwo.ca [129.100.11.252] for anonymous ftp until 1 Feb 1993.
The files are in the directory pub/news/alt.backrubs. A list of the
files and lengths in Kb is below. (Note that the files are
compressed: used binary mode to transfer them.)
The files are my own collection of postings and are far from
complete. I saved these posts because I was interested in them, so I
can't guarantee that anyone will find what they want there. I haven't
even saved all the postings about topics I'm interested in -- this is
especially true of the suggestions for books. I think all the files
are in mailbox format, but I'm not sure. I'd be very grateful if
someone would create an index to the postings in the files.
The files will be at the site only until 1 Feb 1993. If anyone
wants they can put them somewhere else.

I don't think I was clear enough before. I have the files,
but I have no reasonable way to make them accessible. I will not mail
them to people -- I want to put them in an archive site. If anyone
has a good archive site for me to put them in (or knows one where they
already are!) please tell me.

I think it's safe to say that most every discussion oriented
newsgroup is self-archiving, i.e. the same discussions and questions
arise time and time again. This is partly because articles expire too
quickly for people to search and read past discussions. It seems to
me that alt.backrubs suffers from this more than most groups because
the population of people posting here changes sharply every few
months.
There have been a couple of times when most of the people
posting would try to shout down anyone who wanted to discuss sexual
aspects of massage. Thankfully they have not appeared here for a long
time (long live the revolution!). In contrast, there have been
prolonged discussions of the relation between sex and massage and some
short ones about specific techniques.
The alt.backrubs archive was made public in an attempt to help
people find answers to questions about topics discussed here and raise
the level of discussion. I do sometimes get annoyed when people ask
questions that are clearly answered in the archive but that doesn't
mean anything in the archive has the last word on any topic. There is
an exception that proves that rule though: the posts about why sexual
massage should continue to be discussed in alt.backrubs is the last
word on that topic :).

articles that I don't think are relevant to the focus of alt.backrubs.
In particular I haven't been saving every article in the current

them seem to have very little to do with alt.backrubs although they
are informative.
I suspect that these posts are being collected at

The ftp.csd.uwo.ca alt.backrubs FTP site began supporting
automatic decompression recently. In other words, you can now
transfer files from the UWO FTP site in text form and the files will
be in text form for you to read. Before this new capability was added
you had to transfer files in binary format and then convert them into
a text format using an uncompress program.
Details are in the pub/README file at ftp.csd.uwo.ca. I don't
know if the sunsite.unc.edu mirror site has a similar capability.
I'll change the 00README file and archive announcement to
reflect this when I have some spare time.

suggestions about which files should be included. The current list,
available from the archive, is:
draping, emot.reslease, erection, finding.a.MT, mas.biz, prostate,
what.to.expect, what.price.
Subject: Minor changes
The emot.release file is the long awaited counterpart to
mas.vs.psychotherapy. What should massage therapists know about emotional
release, somaemotional memory, etc.? The file contains a record of
postings about the topic.
The draping file has been created from new postings and postings
that used to be in the what.to.expect file. The abstract reads: `Discussion
of draping standards. Draping is a technical term meaning covering the
body of a client while they are being massaged.'
Articles about tipping have been removed from the what.to.expect
file and placed in the what.price file.
The Archive.Index and Abstracts file have been updated accordingly.
Subject: General information
