About This File:
----------------
This file is an evolving list of "Frequently Asked Questions" documents on
medicine/health and support-related topics posted to UseNet Newsgroups on the
Internet. For an overview of the FAQ philosophy, see "FAQs about FAQs" from
Russ Hersch,sibit@datasrv.co.il (posted to news.answers). These medical/
health-related FAQs are of value to both patients and health professionals,
as they highlight the most common concerns held by sufferers, and help to
fill the health information void. Some are qenuinely frequently asked
questions from Usenet discussions; others represent the efforts of
individuals to share information they have collected.
Because people come and go, previous versions of this FAQ may be invalid if I
am not aware of a change in author or email address. I rely on your help to
ensure this list is as accurate as possible, as I cannot read all the
newsgroups on a regular basis myself. If you are unable to locate an FAQ in
this list, please let me know.
Suggestions and submissions for inclusion in future versions most welcome.
Many thanks to those who have already sent a contribution to the list.

How do I access the FAQs in this list?
--------------------------------------
There are four ways.
1. Read the Usenet newsgroups on the off chance that an update has recently
been posted. News Answers (a moderated repository for periodic UseNet
articles) is a good place to look if you can't find an FAQ where you expect
it, as many are co-posted here. Many of the misc.kids FAQs are posted to the
misc.kids.info newsgroup.
2. Send email to one of the contacts listed in the Medical FAQ List to
request a copy. Note that where a named person is given as a contact, this
person is will have to send the FAQ to you by personal email. As this
involves their time and possible expense, please do not randomly make
requests for FAQs.
3. You can get a listing of FAQs held in any newsgroup archive by sending an
email request to ftpmail@doc.ic.ac.uk (or a closer FTP mailserver) with the
following in the body of the message:
open rtfm.mit.edu
cd /pub/usenet-by-group/
dir
quit
One you have the directory listing you can substitute the dir command with
get . Note that not all FAQs listed here are archived in this
way.
4. If you have full Internet access, run your FTP client and connect to
rtfm.mit.edu and browse the directory /pub/usenet-by-group to locate any
archived FAQs.
How can I get a copy of this document?
--------------------------------------
There are five ways:
1. Read the Usenet newsgroup sci.med or the OneNet Medical Library/ Medical
UK Conferences on the off chance that an update has recently been posted.
2. Send email to the author of the Medical FAQ List to request a copy. Please
try other methods first.
3. Send an email request to ftpmail@doc.ic.ac.uk (or a closer FTP mailserver)
with the following in the body of the message:
open ftp.demon.co.uk
cd /pub/misc
get MedFAQ.txt
quit
4. If you have full Internet access, run your FTP client and connect to
ftp.demon.co.uk and browse the directory /pub/misc to locate this file as
'MedFAQ.txt'. At the name prompt, enter 'ftp'. Use your full email address as
the password.
5. It is available for downloading from the Medical Resources section within
NHS Forums on Andy's Clinic BBS, Manchester UK tel. 0614399429 (modem). The
filename is Medical FAQ List.
