Think the reason is that they are slow growing; they are easy to
propagate by cuttings.

Take 2 inch cutting in early Summer. Cut a slit lengthwise along the
bottom half inch of the cutting, taking off a slice of the thin bark.
Dip in hormone rooting powder and take off all but about 3 small
leaves or cut larger leaves in half. Put into peat and coarse sand mix
and cover with plastic film to keep humid. Put in light shade. You
should get about 50% success and rooting in about 1.5 months. They
will not grow much at all in the first year.
