The problem of violence has received a lot of lip service
lately. It is usually addressed with shortsighted calls for more
government action. Government is not solution; it is part of the
problem.
Government programs of taxation, regulation and inflation have
institutionalized poverty and unemployment. America's statist
mess traps people in desperate conditions in which violent crime
grows.
The stabilizing influence of family and societal
relationships are ruined by welfare and Social Security programs
that pretend to assume responsibility for the poor, the disabled,
the elderly and their families. More and more people decide that
there is no need to be concerned about the spouse and children or
grandma and grandpa when the government will allegedly take care of
them.
Children are forced to attend public schools while their
parents are forced to pay for public schools. Generations suffer
as these baby-sitting bureaucracies undermine family
responsibilities and replace them with assembly-line in
doctrination in mediocrity.
All of government's artificial attempts to "serve the public"
require money that is taken through the force of law. Burdensome
taxes trap people into accepting unsatisfactory offerings from the
government that robs them. Society grows dependent on the very
institution that impoverishes and enslaves it.
Human sensitivity and non-violence is not enhanced by
stormtrooping tax collectors. Force and fear is relied upon by IRS
agents. Respect for other people's property is mocked as 35
percent of people's money is regularly confiscated. Even medieval
serfs were left with more than this. Dr. Murray N. Rothbard,
economist and author of "Man, Economy and State." pointed out that
"the state is only organization in society that regularly and
openly obtains its monetary revenues by the use of aggressive
violence."
Peace is hindered as Americans are taxed for the socialistic jobs/welfare programthe that the military has become. Peace-loving minds must be repulsed by horrendous arsenals whose cost is thrust upon American families. Individuals continue to be threatened with this violent crime as politicians pursue aggressive foreign policies and distract attention from the failures of domestic socialism.
Domestically, the government promotes societal engineering and fights the free market. Studies indicate that 50 percent of all revenue-producing crime is drug related. Drug laws cause the price of drugs to skyrocket, thereby prompting drug users to support their habit by stealing. "Drug prohibition" produces impurities, irresponsibility and high risk, which also make violence an aspect of the market. It is social engineering reminiscent of alcohol prohibition.
The violent side of prostitution is a result of laws making it
a crime. Prostitution laws put prostitution in the streets.
Violence enters the market because of the risk and high prices that
prostitution laws cause.
Gambling laws remain on the books even though they are
impossible to enforce against small-scale gambling among consenting
adults. On a large scale, "organized crime" occurs as the
government monopolizes gambling by allowing only chosen vested
interest the right to control gambling.l
Drug, prostitution and gambling markets become corrupt and
violent through the interference of government.
Innocent people suffer rape, murder and other ipso facto
violent crimes while the government spends millions of tax dollars
creating more crime by unjustly persecuting citizens for victimless
"crimes."
Justice is mocked as pot smokers and poker players are
persecuted while the state rakes off its share of the " take"
from dog tracks, horses, lotteries and alcohol.
Government is unparalleled in the use and cause of violence.
It resorts to violence directly by taxation, conscription and
morality laws. It creates economic and social conditions of
inflation and unemployment in which violence flourishes. It
prosecutes people for victimless "crimes" while neglecting to
protect citizens from violent crimes.
This is a violent society because of the aggression,
extortion, force and violence that are standard behavior in socialistic policies of government. It follows that this behavior is reflected
increasingly in the governed and socialist greedheads.
There are solutions to the problem of violence, but they are
not found in simplistic calls for more government and more laws.
Government is not a solution; it is a part of the problem.
