He has been expected for generations by all of the major religions.
Christians know him as the Christ, and expect his imminent return.
Jews await him as the Messiah; Hindus look for the coming of Krishna;
Buddhists expect him as Maitreya Buddha; and Muslims anticipate the
Imam Mahdi or Messiah. The names may be different, but many believe
they all refer to the same individual: the World Teacher, whose name
is Maitreya (My-'tray-ah). Preferring to be known simply as the
Teacher, Maitreya has not come as a religious leader, or to found a
new religion, but as a teacher and guide for people of every religion
and those of no religion.

At this time of great political, economic and social crisis Maitreya
will inspire humanity to see itself as one family, and create a
civilization based on sharing, economic and social justice, and global
co-operation. He will launch a call to action to save the millions of
people who starve to death every year in a world of plenty. Among
Maitreya's recommendations will be a shift in social priorities so
that adequate food, housing, clothing, education, and medical care
become universal rights.

Under Maitreya's inspiration, humanity itself will make the required
changes and create a saner and more just worl for all.

o A Gradual Emergence

In recent years, information about Maitreya's emergence has come
primarily from Benjamin Creme, a British artist and author who has
been speaking and writing about this event since 1974. According to
Creme, Maitreya descended in July 1977 from his ancient retreat in the
Himalayas and took up residence in the Indian-Pakistani community of
London. He has been living and working there, seemingly as an ordinary
man, his true status known to relatively few. He has been emerging
gradually into full public view so as not to infringe humanity's free
will.

As a modern man concerned with today's problems, Maitreya has worked
on many levels since 1977 to prepare humanity for his outward
presence. From behind the scenes, the outpouring of his extraordinary
energy has been the stimulus for dramatic changes on many fronts,
including the fall of communism in the Soviet Union, the collapse of
apartheid in South Africa, the rapprochement between East and West,
the growing power of the people's voice, and a worldwide focus on
preserving the environment.

Outwardly, he has met with groups of journalists and influential
leaders from all fields, informing them of his solutions to today's
most pressing problems and of the role they might play in the coming
time.

Since 1988 Maitreya has appeared miraculously throughout the world,
mainly to orthodox religious groups, presenting in the simplest terms
the great spiritual laws governing our lives. And, through steadily
increasing signs and spiritual manifestations, now widely reported in
the media, he has touched the hearts of millions, preparing them for
his imminent appearance.

o Day of Declaration

At the earliest possible moment, Maitreya will demonstrate his true
identity. On the Day of Declaration, the international radio and
television networks will be linked together, and Maitreya will be
invited to speak to the world. We will see his face on television, but
each of us will hear his words telepathically in or own language as
Maitreya simultaneously impresses the minds of all humanity. Even
those who are not watching him on television or listening to the radio
will have this experience. At the same time, hundreds of thousands of
spontaneous healings will take place throughout the world. In this way
we will know that this man is truly the World Teacher for all
humanity.


::: MAITREYA'S MISSION :::

Hierarchy, with whom he is in constant telepathic contact. His name,
well-known in esoteric circles, is not yet being revealed for various
reasons.)

Many people await the return of the Christ with trepidation and fear.
They sense that his appearance will promote great changes in all
departments of life. His values, they rightly assume, will necessarily
alter their ways of thinking and living, and they blanch at such a
prospect. Besides, so mystical has been the view of the Christ
presented down the centuries by the churches, that many fear his
judgment and omnipotent power; they await him as God come to punish
the wicked and reward the faithful.

It is sadly to be regretted that such a distorted vision of the Christ
should have so permeated human consciousness. No such being exists. In
order to understand the true nature of the Christ it is necessary to
see him as one among equal Sons of God, each endowed with full divine
potential, differing only in the degree of manifestation of that
divinity.

That he has achieved the fullness of that divinity is his glory, and
well may we stand in reverence at this achievement. That this same
achievement is rare indeed is also indisputably true. But the wonder
of the Christ for men is that he was one of them. Naught there is, in
the trials and sufferings of men, but he did know it. Each step of the
path that men still tread has he painfully trodden. Nothing is there
in the whole panorama of human experience that he has not shared. Thus
truly is he the son of man.

There can be little doubt that were he to appear unannounced in our
midst few would recognize him. So far from the general notion is he
that he would pass unnoticed in the crowd. Thus it is today among his
brothers as he awaits man's invitation to begin his mission. Many who
see him daily know him not. Others recognize him but are afraid to
speak. Still others wait and pray, hopeful that he may be the one for
whom they dare not hope. Only his declaration before the world will
establish him in the sight and hearts of men.

While we await that day of days, let us clarify in our minds the
reasons for his return. Let us understand the nature of the task which
he has set himself. To establish in our midst the fact of God, has he
come. To recreate the Divine Mysteries, is he here. To teach men how
to love, and love again, is he among us. To establish man's
brotherhood does he walk the earth once more. To keep faith with the
Father and with man does he accept this burden. To usher in the new
age has he returned. To consolidate the treasure of the past, to
inspire the marvels of the future, to glorify God and man has he
descended from his high mountain.

Let us look at his priorities: the establishment of peace; the
inauguration of the system of sharing; the removal of guilt and fear -
- the cleansing of the hearts and minds of men; the education of
mankind in the laws of life and love; an introduction to the
Mysteries; the beautification of our cities; the removal of barriers
to travel and interchange of peoples; the creation of a pool of
knowledge accessible to all.

That such a task is not an easy one, not even for the son of man, is
clear. Ancient habits of division and separation have strong roots,
while fear and superstition cast their spell over millions of mankind.
But never before, in the history of the world, has a teacher come
better equipped for his task. Maitreya has come to do battle with
ignorance and fear, division and want. his weapons are spiritual
understanding, knowledge an love; his shining armour is truth itself.


QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS WITH BENJAMIN CREME

Q. What will Maitreya's initial task be?

A. In the first place, he will be concerned with inspiring humanity to
create the conditions in which world peace can be guaranteed. He will
show that this requires, above all, the acceptance of the principle of
sharing to harmonize the imbalance caused today by the tremendous
discrepancies in the living standards of the developed and the
developing nations.

His immediate proposal will be to launch a crash program of aid to
save the starving millions in the Third World. Then, over the next few
years, the restructuring of society along more just lines will
gradually form the basis for a new civilization. He has to inspire
humanity to create the new world. His initial task is really one of
reconstruction.

Q. In what light will he be seen by the world? In what capacity will
he act? Will he and the Masters form some new institution?

A. After Declaration Day he will be seen as the spearhead of all
forward-looking progressive movements for change. Eventually, this
will mean total change of all our institutions. Some short time after
Declaration Day he will introduce 12 Masters to the world, and some of
them will take certain very high posts. One or two will take their
places at the head of certain governments, in key nations in the
world. Another master will be in charge of a new agency, to be set up
within the United Nations, to oversee the redistribution program. They
will act in the most international way, not forming any new named team
or separate agency, but they will be leaders of world thought and
opinion and, of course, the stimulus behind all ideas in the
rebuilding of the world.

Q. Does Maitreya have any particular political bias?

A. No. You will find that the Christ does not align himself with any
political party or stance. He is not a member of any political party.
You will see that he speaks for all people, especially the poor, for
East ad West. The world's problems are not simply party political
problems -- sharing the resources of the world is a global issue, one
for the UN, as a whole, to deal with. He will appeal to the goodwill
and compassion in all people everywhere, of whatever party, political
persuasion, or none.

Q. Will Maitreya and the masters form a world government? If so, what
role will the Christ play?

A. They will not form a world government. World government will come
inevitably as a logical result of the acceptance by humanity that it
is One. And *that* realization will grow from the acceptance of the
principle of sharing. It is the basis of all change and progress in
this coming time.

The United Nations today forms the nucleus of a future world
government. At present, it does not have the power which a world
government might need, but only because those powers are not given to
it by the major nations -- America, Russia and China, for instance.
The Security Council stands in the way of a true functioning of the UN
Assembly -- which is the real basis of a future world government. It
must be stressed that world government does not signify a dictatorial,
supra-national regime, imposing laws on nations which, willy-nilly,
they must obey. It will be the result of a federation of independent
states, something like the British Commonwealth or the United States
of America. Before the Union, few of the states of America could
conceive of giving up autonomy and sovereignty, a condition which is
found quite natural now. By the same token, many of the nations today
see no possibility of giving up the sovereignty which one day they
will willingly relinquish in the interests of world groupings and
world government.

Each country will retain its own language, culture, political system
and so on. It is not the intention of Hierarchy to attempt to create a
one-governmental system throughout the world.

Q. So the political and legal systems will be maintained in all
countries?

A. Political forms will be retained according to the customs,
tradition, history and ray structure of each nation, only in more
perfected forms than now. The world's legal matters, which concern
global issues -- for instance the exploration of the sea-bed, or
space, or mineral deposits in the world, and so on -- will be governed
by international law.

Q. Since Maitreya is the World Teacher, does that mean he will be more
involved in certain fields of human endeavor than in others?

A. Many people, particularly Christians, see him as the head of the
Christian church but, in fact, this is not the case; the Master Jesus
is the head of the churches. The World Teacher is the stimulus behind
a whole range of activities, not only religion.  He is as much the
stimulus behind the scientific discoveries and the educational
concepts which are today engaging men's minds as he is with regard to
religious matters.

Q. Do you think that political leaders will ask for or heed his
suggestions?

A. Yes, I do. I think some governments and their leaders will respond
immediately.  Others perhaps may be slower, but I believe there will
be a spontaneous response to his call on Declaration Day, and the
peoples themselves will form groups, orldwide, growing and growing
until these groups -- demanding justice, freedom, peace, brotherhood
and sharing -- become the overwhelming majority. It will come from us.


QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS WITH BENJAMIN CREME

Q. How will we recognize Maitreya, the Christ?

A. There are many men in the world today who are giving very sound
instruction, very beautiful teachings, and some of them are claimed to
be the Christ by their followers. We know there are, today, many
people who claim to be the Christ or Maitreya; and we know, too, that
there is a prophecy which says that before the Christ comes there will
be many false Christs [Bingo. -d4], false teachings about the Christ
[Bingo. -d4], and that: If someone points to a man and says, that is
the Christ, lo, here! or lo, there! do not believe him. No one will
point to the true Christ and say: That is the Christ. The recognition
of the Christ is up to each one of us, individually.

The Christ is the embodiment of the energy we call the Christ
Consciousness or Principle, the energy of the Cosmic Christ. It is
released into the world for us by Maitreya, the Christ, and to the
degree that it manifests in us, we will recognize Him. He will show
that our political and economic life has to make a complete change of
direction and become the spiritual activity which essentially it is;
that our educational systems, our science and culture, should, again,
take on a new, spiritual, connotation. He will speak across the whole
range of human activity, and it will be by the breadth of his
teaching, the universality of his viewpoint, that we may recognize
him; by his tremendous spiritual potency, his extraordinary aura of
purity, sanctity; by his obvious love and capacity to serve; by all of
these we may recognize him. Many people will follow the Christ without
recognizing him, without even knowing he is in the world. But they
will follow that man because they believe in what he is saying, in
what he stands for: sharing and brotherhood, justice and freedo for
all mankind. He will be the spokesman for a certain type of group
thinking along these lines.

He has said that many will be perhaps surprised at his appearance. He
comes, not as the head of the Christian, or any other, church. It may
be that the orthodox Christian leaders will be among the last to
recognize the Christ. He is not the one and only Son of God, but the
friend and elder brother of humanity.

Q. Have some of us known the Christ in previous lives?

A. Yes, and he himself has said as much in some of the Messages. Many
have worked with him before in previous lives, some when he manifested
through Jesus. People will find they recognize him -- not his physical
appearance, but his qualities. (In Palestine, he worked through the
Master Jesus, but he does not look like Jesus.) There is no doubt that
there are many in incarnation now who worked with the Christ before in
Palestine or in India when he appeared as Sankaracharya and Krishna.
Many will recognize certain qualities and, in fact, be drawn to him
because of that ancient karmic link. This will happen in both East and
West.

Q. When Maitreya overshadows us on the Day of Declaration, will there
be a physical sensation?

A. He has said that when his energy, that is, the Christ Principle,
flows out, it will be as if he embraces the whole world. People will
feel it -- even physically. As the energy of the Christ Principle
flows through the four levels of the etheric body to the lowest plane
-- which is just above physical gas -- it will be felt on the physical
body as a resounding vibration. If you are at all aware of the etheric
body, you will experience this as a very powerful physical sensation.
Otherwise, you will probably feel it as a pressure on the top of the
head during the overshadowing. Then you will hear his words inwardly
in your own language.


::: MAITREYA'S EMERGENCE: CHRONOLOGY :::

o A New Historical Perspective

From very ancient times a body of spiritual teaching known as the
Ageless Wisdom, or esoteic philosophy, has been passed from generation
to generation, usually by word of mouth, from teacher to pupil. It has
been the well-spring for the arts and sciences of countless
civilizations, as well as the common foundation of all the world's
religions.

According to the Ageless Wisdom teachings, humanity has advanced
primarily through the influence of a succession of enlightened
teachers who inspire humanity at the beginning of every new cosmic
cycle or age.  The wisdom and spiritual power of these teachers have
been so far above the norm that followers have built religions around
them to spread their teachings. We know some of these teachers as
Krishna, Confucius, Zoroaster, the Buddha, the Christ, and Mohammed.

The scriptures of every major religion promise further revelations
with the return of a great spiritual teacher. Today, while Christians
hope for the return of Christ, Jews await the Messiah, Moslems look
for the Imam Mahdi or Messiah, Hindus expect Krishna, and Buddhists
anticipate the Fifth (Maitreya) Buddha. Students of the Ageless Wisdom
teachings know all these as different names for the same individual:
the World Teacher, Maitreya.

Today, at the dawn of the Aquarian Age, Maitreya has come to inspire
humanity to create a civilization characterized by brotherhood,
justice, and right relationship based upon a more equitable sharing of
the world's resources.

o Maitreya's Emergence: A Chronology

1875: The Ageless Wisdom teachings were first made available to the
general public by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, who received her
information directly from the Masters of Wisdom -- perfected,
omniscient men who have attained their high spiritual status after
lifetimes of human experience. In her seminal works on the Ageless
Wisdom, THE SECRET DOCTRINE and ISIS UNVEILED, Blavatsky revealed that
the Masters, together forming the spiritual Hierarchy of our planet,
have guided humanity from behind the scenes of everyday life for
countless millennia. Periodically, at times o great human crisis, they
send one of their own into the world to show humanity the way forward.
Blavatsky established the Theosophical Society to introduce this new
perspective on history and human evolution.

Between 1919 and 1949, Alice A. Bailey wrote a series of books
dictated telepathically to her by the master Djwhal Khul (DK, also
known as the Tibetan). Within the vast body of information given about
the world and its future, the Tibetan revealed that the inevitability
of the World Teacher's, or Christ's, return had been established, and
that he would come at the middle or the close of this century. The
Tibetan also stated that the next phase of the teaching planned by
Hierarchy to precede and condition the new age would emerge after
1975, worldwide -- via the radio.

January 1959: British artist Benjamin Creme was first contacted
telepathically by one of the Masters of Wisdom, and three months later
by Maitreya himself, who offered Creme the task of making known
publicly his return. Maitreya explained, "I myself am coming, sooner
than anyone thinks possible. It will be in about 20 years, and you
will have a role to play in my coming if you accept it." Consenting to
the unknown challenge, Creme began an arduous period of training to
prepare him for the work that would ensue.

Since 1974, Creme has been the key individual speaking out on this
subject, through worldwide public lectures and hundreds of interviews
on radio and television, as well as through the print media. His
information has been compiled into several books and translated into
numerous languages by groups responding to his message.

In July, 1977, according to Creme, Maitreya emerged from his center in
the Himalayas, and traveled by plane from Pakistan to London, his
point of focus in the modern world thus fulfilling the biblical
prophecy that he would come in the clouds. [Oh puh-leeze  -d4]  Returning to humanity like a `thief in the night',
Maitreya established himself in London's Indian-Pkistani community,
where he soon became a spokesman for the underprivileged, voicing his
concern with modern problems -- political, economic, and social.

May, 1982: At an internationally-covered press conference in Los
Angeles, Creme revealed where Maitreya was to be found. Creme
challenged the world's media to mount a symbolic search for Maitreya
in London's Asian community. This search, Creme said, would
demonstrate humanity's willingness to invite Maitreya forward and so
allow him to reveal Himself without violating human free will. The
media did not respond to Creme's invitation. One day after the press
conference, the Falkland Islands War broke out, and no London news
bureau followed through on Creme's information.

July, 1985: Twenty-two international media representatives gathered in
London in hopes of meeting Maitreya. Creme's master said their efforts
demonstrated a positive response to Maitreya which, in turn, freed him
to have a more direct impact on human affairs.

August, 1987: Creme announced: In the coming three or four months,
Maitreya will be working intensively to bring about a breakthrough in
international relationships in the world. Less than a month later,
political meetings began between the Americans and Soviets, followed
by an armaments agreement that no one had thought possible.

April, 1988: An associate of Maitreya began regular communication with
two London-based journalists, relaying Maitreya's forecasts of world
events, which he makes from his knowledge of the Law of Cause and
Effect.

Between 1988 and 1992, this information was published monthly in SHARE
INTERNATIONAL magazine and sent worldwide to politicians, news
agencies, and the United Nations. Maitreya predicted dramatic and
unexpected international events weeks, months, or years before they
happened. These events included: the rapprochement between the United
States and Soviet Union; the growing power of the people's voice,
demonstrating most dramatically in Eastern Europe; the collapse of
communism in the Soviet Union; the release of Nelson Mandela and the
ending of apartheid in South Africa; the resignation of Margaret
Thatcher (a prediction made at the height of her political
popularity); the defeat of George Bush in the 1992 US presidential
election; creation of a Palestinian homeland and peace in the Middle
East; earthquakes in Armenia in 1988, and in California and China in
1989; the new worldwide focus on the environment.

June, 1988: Creme's Master said that Maitreya would begin to create
crosses of light, so many that no one would be able to ignore them.
Within months, crosses of light were discovered in the windows of
homes near Los Angeles, and later in Canada, France, Englad, Japan,
New Zealand and the Philippines. This phenomenon was accompanied by an
increase in other inexplicable events, such as weeping statues of the
Virgin Mary, apparitions of Mary and Jesus, crop circles, angelic
encounters, and vanishing hitchhikers. As the signs continued to
manifest worldwide, media coverage increased.

June 11, 1988: Maitreya materialized suddenly `out of the blue' at a
Christian prayer meeting in Nairobi, Kenya. Thousands attending
instantly recognized him as the Christ. He spoke to them in their own
language and many reported being cured of major illnesses. The KENYA
TIMES reported that, afterwards, a man saw Maitreya take a few steps
and then disappear. The TIMES photographed Maitreya, and the story was
picked up and reported by international news organizations.

1991-Present: As in Kenya in 1988, Maitreya continues to appear
miraculously throughout the world, mainly at meetings of orthodox
religious groups. Prior to his appearance in different locales, he
magnetizes water in the area with healing energy. In Mexico, Germany,
and India the healing waters have been discovered, and millions of
people have been drawn to the sites. Many claim they have been cured
of illnesses such as AIDS, cancer, arthritis, and glaucoma after
drinking the water. In August 1993, the American television program
CBS "Up-to-the-Minute" aired a week-long series on the healing waters
in Tlacote, Mexico. The reporter cited laboratory results which found
the water to be lighter than normal water. She herself claimed that
using the water cured an eye infection in less than one-third the time
her doctor had predicted it would take.

o Coming Predictions

Maitreya has forecast an international stock market crash, beginning
in Japan. This, he says, will force the world to re-evaluate its
priorities, putting fair and humane treatment of everyone ahead of the
profit motive and win-lose competition. The economics of greed, he
says, have created gross material imbalances. Industrialized ountries
use more food and goods than they need, and leave the rest of the
world without even the essentials of life.

The Day of Declaration. When invited by the world's media, Maitreya
will appear on the linked television networks and speak to all
humanity at the same time, each person hearing him inwardly, in his
own language. At the same time, there will be hundreds of thousands of
miracle cures. This Day of Declaration will mark the beginning of
Maitreya's open mission in the world.

The Future. Under the inspiration and guidance of Maitreya and the
masters, humanity will have the responsibility of constructing a new
civilization which will ensure the basics of a sustainable life for
everyone -- food, clothing, housing, health care, and education. The
technology of everyday life will advance beyond the expectations of
even our most visionary futurists. Pollution-free energy and
transportation will be available to all. Jobs done by manual labor
will increasingly become automated. Diseases will be eradicated. And,
without the fear of starvation, suffering, or material want, people
everywhere will have time to discover the talents that they were born
to express, and to find meaning and purpose in life.
