??> Dale, what percentage of alledged abductees
??> require hypnosis to bring out their "stories",
I can only answer from our own experiences
(SABER/HUFON). Between 85 to 95% of the individuals
require hypnosis. Without hypnosis usually all that is
remembered is a brief sighting of something (UFO/alien)
and a hunk of missing time. The individuals are
confused as to what has happened, they may have an
article of clothing on inside out without knowing how
it happened (during the missing time). They may have a
nose bleed, or a small cut on their body somewhere (
under their clothing) again with no recollection of how
it got there. They may be displaced, any where from
several feet to several miles from last place they
remember. In about 50 to 60% of these cases there is
another individual involved who also does not remember,
nor can they explain what has happened during that
time.
A typical event related by one of these subjects would
sound something like this without hypnosis being
employed;
"My husband and I were camping. It was late, about
midnight. We both suddenly awoke. It seemed there
was a very bright light shining on the tent from
above, like a spot light, there was sound like
someone sweeping on the cloth of the ten with a
broom. The next thing we remember is we are both
standing outside the tent my shirt is on backwards
and is unbuttoned. We are looking up and there is
this ball of light moving away really fast. When I
get a flashlight and looked at my husband I see he
has a nose bleed, he told me I had one too."
Without hypnosis that is all you would get from the
individuals. Hypnosis allows them (we believe) to
remember most of the missing details and fill in the
blanks.
To date we only have two individuals who clearly
remember any details about their events. We have one
other person also but their story is seriously
questioned by us and believed to be contrived. There
some interesting things about the two individuals who
can recall their events.
One of the individuals is mentally slow (not mentally
ill) and is much like the character Benny on "L.A.
Law". The interesting thing about this individual is
the total inability to imagine anything. The
individual can only relate real events. If you asked
the subject to make up a story about a horse, he would
tell you of an actual event he remembered involving a
horse. He could not make up a story.
The other individual is a woman (in late forties) who
had a brain tumor when she was 25. The tumor was
removed along with a small portion of her brain. We
believe that the mental condition of the one, and the
missing portion of the brain in the other, are the
reasons the individuals remember their events (un-
aided). We feel that whatever method is utilized by the
E.T.'s to block the memory of events does not work with
them as a result of their brain conditions.
JS> and how much influence would you surmise that the
JS> hypnotherapist has on the story's outcome?
With us or with others??? I have seen video tapes of
some sessions with other investigators/therapists where
I personally feel 90% of the story was the work of the
investigator and not really coming from the recall of
the subject. I have also seen tapes of regressions
done by other investigators, and or therapists, where I
cannot see any signs of manipulation or leading by the
investigator. For our own investigations I would like
to believe that there is no influence, but also being
completely honest and knowing human nature, I suspect
that occasionally we slip up and some influence >may<
slip in. We try very hard not to let that happen and
chose our words and questions very carefully so as not
to lead or influence. Of the 70 odd cases we are
working with I suspect that one, possibly two may be
tainted by "influence", but even there I suspect it is
very slight and we are looking very close for positive
evidence that will indicate if that, in fact, has
happened. To answer your question, on the overall
scale of abduction investigation, by us and others, I
have no idea as to the extent of "influence" by
investigators to show up in cases. With our own
investigations I would estimate 5% to 10% in the worst
case average, with one case in question being possibly
20 to 30%.
